  16. sympathy last August after his four children drowned when his
  17. car plunged into the Detroit River; of four counts of murder
  18. and one of attempted murder (of his wife, who escaped from the
  19. car); in Detroit. The jurors decided that DeLisle, a
  20. debt-ridden tire-store service manager, had deliberately driven
  21. into the river, despite his claim that a leg cramp had forced
  22. him to depress the accelerator.
